Welcome to Vintage Vanity by Galen Galen!!

Welcome to the "Maiden Voyage" issue of Vintage Vanity!, blogged by Gale Galen VintageI hope this will prove to be a wonderful experience for all those persons who ABSOLUTELY LOVE VINTAGE!!  I am a vintage addict - cute cashmere from the 50's, the wonderful hats from the 20's. 30's and 40's...I could go on and on...so I'll just leave it at "I AM AN ADDICT"- LOL.

I want to provide you with the cutest quotes, the most useful and non-useful info on Vintage fashion, interesting prints/pics of style and in some cases give you something that you'll want to incorporate into that wedding or other special event you're planning in the immediate future. There are a number of sites on vintage that provide wonderful historical references of designers, clothing designs, patterns (original and reproduction)...and I love them all, so much so, I'm inspired to do this and hopefully be as relevant in your online reading entertainment as those sites have been for me.

So today, as I'm typing, I've transported myself to the 1920's...

I came across this MOST appropriate "fashion theme of note", regardless of which decade or century in which your mind resides...Consider it the WHAT TO WEAR GUIDE...

Dress To Your Personality (excerpt from Fashion Service magazine, 1929)

What to select from the array of lovely things offered this season must be governed largely by our personalities. Are we vivacious or dignified? Are we feminine or boyish in our inclinations? Are we youthful or matronly in figure? Are we conservative or sophisticated in our ideas? Are we a blonde, a brunette, or an inbetween type? Have a clear or sallow skin? Have we much or little coloring? These are a few of the questions we must answer if we would choose clothes that will help us to appear our best.

If we are matronly in figure, we know that we must leave the piquant little skirt peplums and frills for the youthful, slender folks. But we may have tiers, if they are properly placed, or skirt plaits (pleats), or many of the circular effects.  If we are conservative, we won't look right in the extremes of the sports modes, but we'll find charming scarfs, drapes and lingerie touches that will suit us admirably.

We may like the yellow greens, the bright blues, or the capucine colors, but if they're not becoming we'll pass them by for the less brilliant tones.  The off-the-face hats may intrigue us, but we'll wear brimmed models if our features require their flattering shadows.

There's not one of us who doesn't possess some good feature, some charm.  When we highlight this with our clothes, we become the interesting personalities we all desire to be.

Interesting reading, eh? This confirms everything Stacey and Clinton have been telling us for a few years now...I wonder if they've been reading Fashion Service???

Until next time...with some lovely images to go along with the story...
